Mattress stains are very common – and they don’t happen only when you spill something.
For example, they can occur due to sweat or body-liquids. As you probably know, it’s natural to sweat when you sleep, however, stains will most likely appear on your mattress.
How Can You Prevent That From Happening?
There are two ways to prevent stains on your mattress. The first one – you need to be very careful not to spill anything.
The second one – using a mattress protector! Yes, the best way to prevent stains is to have a fabric that will be waterproof staying in between your mattress and the sheets. There are even mattress protectors which are stain repellent and antibacterial.
How To Remove Stains From Your Mattress?
Now that we covered how to prevent stains from happening we need to see how to remove the old ones when you didn’t have a mattress protector, right?
If the stain is really small then I suggest you spot-treat it with any stain remover you have in your home.
However, if the stain is large then here is what you need to do! Mix powdered laundry detergent with water (use very little water because you want the consistency to be like a paste).
Then apply the mixture to the affected area and allow to sit for 30 minutes or so. Then remove it with a damp cloth and allow the area to air-dry.
I would also recommend vacuuming the area after it’s dry so that any excess powder can be removed.
How To Get Rid Of Bad Odours?
If your mattress has a bad odour due to spilling something smelly then you can always deodorize it with some rubbing alcohol. Not only will it get rid of the smell but it will also disinfect the surface. I also like to add a few drops of essential oil so that it smells even better.
